    (d. 1977 )

    Palestinian judge from Ijzin in northern Palestine. Founder and theoretician of Hizb al-Tahrir al-Islami (Islamic Liberation Party), established in 1953 . It aimed at the restoration of Islamic rule and the liberation of Islamic lands from outside colonial rule. Stressed the need to restore the caliphate. Later influenced the rise of Islamic ideology among Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza in the 1980s and 1990s. After the death of Nabahani, Shaykh Abd al-Qadhim Zallum assumed the leadership of the party. Nabahani's writings are widely circulated among fundamentalist activists throughout the region and in Europe, especially Britain.
