The Oxford Dictionary of Islam What is This? Covers the religious, political, and social spheres of global Islam in the modern world

    Qadariyyah

Classical Islamic theological school, seventh to ninth century, which asserted human free will in decision making and as justification for God's power to blame or punish humans. Humans' capacity to make choices makes them responsible for the outcome of their actions and absolves God of responsibility for evil in the world. Many of this school's doctrines were adopted by Mutazilis. The position was rejected by the dominant Ashari theology.
