    (b. 1948 )

    Palestinian Islamic fundamentalist leader. Born in Bir al-Sab but settled in the Jabaliyyah camp in Gaza after the creation of Israel. Received a degree from Dar al-Ulum in Egypt. In Egypt, was close to the most militant fundamentalist groups (some of which were linked to the assassination of Anwar Sadat ). Returned to Gaza in 1981 and lectured at the Islamic University of Gaza. One of the founders of Islamic Jihad of Palestine, which, along with HAMAS, represents the Islamic fundamentalist ideology among the Palestinians and perpetrates violent acts against Israeli targets. Awdah was arrested by Israeli forces in 1984 and deported in 1993 to south Lebanon.
