Cambodia's Muslim community consists of descendants of Arab and Indian merchants and artisans as well as converts. Muslims there tend to be employed in trading, agriculture, and fishing and are primarily Sunnis with practices and beliefs similar to other orthodox Southeast Asian Muslims. The Muslim population was decimated by the Khmer Rouge. Religious education and understanding were severely weakened by the loss of teachers and leaders.
