    Aga Khan

    Title of the Nizari Ismaili imams since Hasan Ali Shah (d. 1881 ). The Aga Khan represents direct lineal descent and succession from the first Shii imam, Ali , and his wife Fatimah , Muhammad 's daughter. The present imam, Prince Karim al-Husayni , is the forty-ninth hereditary imam of the worldwide Nizari Ismaili community.
