Abraha

Ruled in sixth-century Yemen on behalf of the Negus of Abyssinia. Attacked Mecca in 570 . His assault was, according to the Quran (surah 105 ), foiled by God, who sent a flock of birds that bombarded his army with clay pellets. The event is important for the traditional dating of Muhammad 's birth.
